I was hopeful we could bring back the original SiN cast, and after tracking everyone down we were able to make that happen. It was great to hear everyone again, and the cast's talent has only grown over time. Add to that the great new talent we cast, and I feel like we were able to add even more richness to the Sin universe.
The recording sessions were action packed, lots of lines and lots of direction. Shawn Ketcherside (SiN Episodes' writer) was there with me to make sure every scene had the correct context. It's an important part of direction to make sure the actors know what their lines mean, as they have literally nothing to look at or react to in a recording booth. One technique I was able to use to overcome this problem was to have Jessica (Jen Taylor) and JC (Billy O'Sullivan) record at the same time. This allowed the two actors to have heated and dynamic conversations, and to react off of the other's performance. This resulted in very convincing VO performances that would not have been possible otherwise. And David Sculley (Radek) is also one of the funniest guys you'll ever work with, in addition to being a great talent.
In terms of sound design, how does Source compare to previous technologies you've worked with?
The team at Valve took great care in giving Source a full featured audio toolset, and allowed me to create very detailed soundscapes in all areas of the game. From busy-sounding Druglabs to seashore to spooky sewers, the technology made it relatively simple to create a rich ambience that helps give each location its unique feel.

I intend to evolve the existing themes to match the escalating threats that the player will face as they move through the episodes. Additionally each episode will have an overarching theme that will be based on that episode's title track. I hope to be able to use live strings, vocals and drums in the next episode's soundtrack again, as adding human talent improves any score.
Are there any plans to release the SiN Episodes: Emergence soundtrack?
Yes, look for the SiN Episodes: Emergence soundtrack online on iTunes, Rhapsody, MusicNet and Napster. It will also be available at retail in the near future.
