This info has been posted in another thread, but given how many people were complaining about Steam I figured it's worth it for it to be a separate thread.

From this interview (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=324&Item id=2) with Steve Nix, CEO of Ritual, he says the following:

<< Ritual believes retail will not lose out from a system which largely bypasses them. "We are going to reach one audience by delivering episodes through the internet and we will expand to another consumer group when the retail collection of episodes hits store shelves," explains Nix. "Our early discussions with retailers indicate that they want to sell great games to their customers regardless of the initial distribution channel. >>

WHEN it retail shelves, not IF. However, please note that this is part on an interview and not a formal statement on the subject so it could change, but at least for the time being it looks like the episodes will be collected and sold at retail at some point.

You can stop complaining about Steam being buggy or not having a credit card now.

I'm glad there will be a retail release.
If there wasn't one, I would have no interest in purchasing the product.

a retail release will come around 2+ years from now... think about it, they'll put out 2-3 episodes a year. It's unlikely they'll put them out any faster.

Well, I'd guess at least 2 per year -- since they said "multiple" per "calendar year".

We've seen short games released for $50 at the store. Look at Max Payne 2.

W/ the above given on Max 2, why not say put just two episodes on one CD for retail purchase at a $50 price tag or less? (It'd be nice if there's more than 2 episodes on one CD/DVD, if it'll be that high of a $50 cost).

That could happen, I'd guess, a lil' bit over a year after the STEAM release of the 1st SiN Episode.

its not that simple
don't you remember what happened to half-life 2?
its not only wanting a sin sequel in a retail shelve... what we
really want is a sin sequel STEAM FREE
look at what happened to hl2
didn't it appeared in retail shelves in a box? yes!
do you thing i bought it? oh no! only over my dead body!
why? cause it had steam infection hidden right inside the cd!

sin sequel retail yes but only STEAM FREE with no steam hidden
inside the cd at all!

And what, let you haxor friends steal the game before it's released? I think not.

you guys are funny to listen to. You look like cartoon characters with STEAM comming out their ears.

don't forget the big issue is not only being available in the
retail channel but also not having steam
half-life 2 was in retail and had steam inside the cd which
made it an aberration, a very big lie so much vivendi stop
selling it and germany forced chances into the labeling in
the cover
bottom line is we don't want steam infecting the retail
channel
steam can only be present as a internet distribution system

yes its good news a sin sequel available in retail but only
if its steam free!
retail yes but only steam free

don't even try like all the others to wave the piracy flag
when defending steam... its exactly what your master valve
wants you to do but we will not accept it
we are PAYING costumers!
we bought valve past pc game titles!
so valve owe us the loyalty and support we gave them in the
past so at least they could have gave back us a little bit
of respect which didn't happen
we the paying customer were neglected by valve
valve used us in the past to finance them and now they are
sending us to the trash like someone does to garbage
its a disgrace how valve treated us! a total shame!

Really, how many of you currently use steam? Stop whining. I don't know a single person currently using steam and having problems with it.

I TOTALY agree with SayNO2Steam.
Not everybody does have an internet connection, and to play HL2 it's a must! Not to say that may CD Keys delivered with packages of HL2 were unusable, and customers, gamers like you and me, had to wait months to get new ones.
I have a original copy ( the nice carton box edition with the exelent manual, not the DVD Sold-Out or Classics box ) of SiN, and an original copy of Half Life Generation Pack.
But HL2...no way. Even Levelord himself didn't play the game ( HL2 ) at home! Yes, the game is exelent, I agree with that, but with all the scandals that followed it....

I agree with SayNO2Steam too. I've waited nearly two hours to unlock the HL2 files at the day of release. And these endless updates.... (no broadband aviable at my location)
Why can't I download these updates manual? What happens If I have to reinstall HL2? I've installed steam on only one PC at home, and it looks like and is programmed like Win95. Why does it need to hack into windows to run?

It would be all right, if they can do it like Earth2160. If you have no Interet, call the hotline! You can download patches and bring it to you friend, who don't have an internet connection.
Steam is a good idea, but valve didn't it make user friendly. Buying games online ist queit ok, like it does Gamespy. But Valve, if you have steam, you'll never forgot it. You get used to it, and valve uses this.

Besides, who ist still waiting for Team Fortress 2? After 7 years of waiting it should be relaesed! I also haven't seen any advertising until now of SinEpisodes. And HL2 was all over. I don't think that Sin Episodes would be such a success like HL was.

Most of you probably read it already, but in this thread (http://www.ritualistic.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=157315&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1) I've written several issues for Ritual to (re)consider which also reflects some of the issues stated within this thread . . .

No whining here, I actually enjoy Steam and am looking forward to geting SiN 2 using it. It has never crashed, I have always been able to play my HL2 games. And, I have never been accidently banned. Since a lot of cheaters seem to hover on Counter Strike server I would assume that once they were banned they started screaming like prepubesent 13 year olds. I'm all for VAC, keeps the annoying wall hacks out.

Well, if I were to buy the episodes and then once the collection hits store shelves, I want to be able to have proof that I've already payed for them already, vs paying another $50 or $50+.

I'm not sure if I completely understood what you're saying , but if you think that if you´ve bought the game online through steam you´ll get the retail version for free when it´s out: not a snowball´s chance in hell.

hmm
what to say about steam?????????
first if u have a 56k(like me) it doesn't work because it forces u to download the updates and u can't even play the game until u do.
this wouldn't be a problem for ADSL users and for them steam is great .
i think an opt out of the updates would be all thats need to remedy steam for me other than that i have no problems with it.

and its a load of bull that steam prevents piracy because a month after HL2 was out cracked copies of steam where avaible that didn't need to connect to the internet or validate cd-key codes or anything.
what steam does bring to the table is an excellent anti cheat system (in thoery) VAC2 (or similar) is what online gaming needs and steam makes this kind of unfied cheat free gaming possible.
in summary shut up about steam cause its not goin away if u don't have ADSL tough shit. if u are stuck with a 56k (like me) move into a braodband area (like me). and in this day and age no one with a PC should have no internet connection at all, thats just pathetic.
