I have to say I'm really excited to see another developer distributing their work through Steam. After working in game development for the past year, I can honestly say that publishers more often then not hinder the quality of the games. I think platforms such as Steam are a necessary step for games to be able to grow as an artform. Also, I hope the Sin episodes will help to break down some of the preconceptions about what a game "has" to be. Mainly the length of gameplay. With the growing number of older gamers out their, a game that takes 10+ hours to finish is not something you can easily fit into your free time.
I'm definatly going to be buying the Sin episodes aswell as continue to support other Steam products because I know they'll be the quality games that the developers wanted to make and not just some knock off of last years hit.

obviously they become your heroes for trying to impose a system
in which it gives to your kind the developers all the power and
take from us pc gamers our freedom, dignity and consumer rights
do you know who also thinks they are heroes? microsoft!
yes the all software industry dreams about this, dreams about
having a system which they can totally control the consumer
a system in which software become a service
but your dream is OUR NIGHTMARE!
i thought we were partners in this, in the pc game market, you
created and we bought but i guess it's no longer a partnership
but war... and you now become our enemy
what would you expect from us when you create a system that
deliberately takes from us to give to you?
what would you expect from us when you create a system with
the sole purpose is benefiting your kinds and damaging us?
with this kind os UNILATERAL attitude from you developers, you
will not have our support and instead you will get our frontal
and complete OPPOSITION!
we will not accept steam like systems in pc games!
i understand you want more power and money but NEVER in our
own expense!
long live pc games steam free!
i will never buy any steam INFECTED pc game!
i will always BOYCOTT steam INFECTED pc games!
and let the "war" proceed to defend pc gamers consumer rights!
this was wrote by a pc gamer that buys at least a new pc
game title every month and although i'm only one i know many
like myself will do the same and boycott steam so we will see
if your ARROGANT attitude of imposing a new system in pc games
will succeed or fail! I'M SURE IT WILL FAIL!
ps: in the past month of june i bought 5 (five) pc game titles
all proper retail boxed ones with no abusive and damaging
technologies in it, so if steam wins you will lose me as a
costumer! cause i rather give up completely buying pc games than
accepting steam!

Hi, dudes ! (Hey Reid, you're on the Sin stuff /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )
I'm not here to start a flamme war or something... I just wanted to say that I'm very deceived by the fact that Sin will be on Steam.
To be really honest: yes, I hate that system, not because of the fact that you can get direct content on your drive with it, buys games online, etc... but it's just that I consider Steam as the begin of a big offence to the Gaming industry & more importantly customers: as I explained in other forums, I'm the type 'o guy that has the chance to spend money on videogames - & can afford it - & have an internet connection too (512k, but it's fine for me) BUT - & I'm sorry - I'm still against the fact that you need to connect the net to play a game. Why ? This is a big offense to intimacy, personnal freedom (network admins know what I'm talking about) & a huge constraint that has come to this industry.
I can understand that a company wants to make money, I can understand that there are problems with publishers or whatever, but I still see this as some kind of insane commercial stuff....
Just think of the guys that don't have the chance to get an internet connection, think of the guys (like myself) that loves buying products & get the pleasure to:
- enjoy the game
- enjoy the packaging
- enjoy the fact that you acquired a physical product that you can use just when you want, then install / uninstall at any time
So, I'm sorry to write that, but there's no chance that I'll buy & enjoy (I'm sure that the game'll be great, no matter for that...) the product JUST because of what Steam represents to me.
And for the Microsoft comparisons, the guy isn't that wrong...
Damn, I don't like posting such messages, but this was necessary...

To sayNO2steam, get lost no one likes you, you need to check into a doctor your have Schizophrenia... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
As far as I see, NO ONE PUT A GUN to ritual head and forced them to release it threw Steam. So there IS NO Conspiracy you moron!!!! Ritual is paying out of pocket to create the game, releasing it by episodes, Internet release looks to be the best way, and Steam makes sure they Don't get ripped off so there investiment can make profit.
Peace

@ Sebultura:
You are not flaming you are just voicing your opinion.
Which sayNO2steam is apparently not. Well as his nick suggests, he just came here for the sake of bashing steam and does it over and over again. And things like "OUR NIGHTMARE" and "INFECTED" are, to say the least, a bit exaggerated. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Hell, its just some game you can download or not, I have no idea how that can humiliate anyone. You have a free choice after all.
But he is talking of war and being betrayed in a partnership./forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Its just annoying to read posts by someone trying to force everyone else to have the exact same oppionion than he does. He is not talking just for hisself he is talking of "us" for all gamers.
And I don't like my oppionen to be hijacked like that.
The thing with microsoft I posted is just that he sounds like he would rather die than using steam cause Valve is so much like Microsoft and he is still running a windows machine. So what about his so loud voiced believes when its getting a bit uncomfortable to follow them?
Oh well and on a sitenote, Valve was founded by former Microsoft employees, so ...uh yeah shocking comparison. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I would not even say that I like steam, but his talking is no basis for a real discussion about it at all.

Given that you'll have to get the game online anyway, is that such an issue here?
