View Full Version : To the Developers: Game Suggestion

Let the player see their feet and hands!
Why? It gives the player the sense that they're actually the character, makes the game feel more personal and gives them more reason to try and think like the character would. That and its cool to see that a little bit more effort than norm was put into the game.
I hated playing Half-Life 2 with the vehicles because I felt like an invisible man was driving it seeing as you NEVER see Gordon's reflect, feet, hands unless you have a weapon, or anything of that sort. When driving the very first time in the game you saw the handle turn but there's no hands touching it at all. And with the cart you drive, again, nothing steering it, yet the wheel still turns.
So please, if you're going to do something, at least PLEASE put arms when driving if nothing else, it just makes sense.

I like not seeing feet and hands, looks corny like in Halo2 that was one of many bad things in that game. Feet don't look good in FPS, and arms do not look good when you are driving, just too not cool.

Never played the Riddick game did you? That was one of the key features that made that game.

nope, if its for a console I will never play it because shooters and consoles just don't work.

First off:
First person shooters on consoles are actually getting really good at control schemes and set ups
Secondly:
The PC version of Riddick came out not too long ago on DVD and is still the only game known to have a specific run for 64bit processors, along with two new levels of play.
You really should look into it.

Oh, one more thing I'd like to see, not really a biggy but it would be nice; Maybe a bit of steath? Like the option to do stealth instead of having trigger activated AI? It was kind of annoying how AI knows where you are when you've done everything possible so that they don't, just a suggestion.

Riddick is a fantastic game, and I think seeing your characters arms and feet is a nice touch makes you feel more immersed in the game.Thief 3, Halo and Tresspasser (dont shoot me) are good examples of this.

I rest my case. Once again, it makes you feel more like you're actually the character rather than a ghost looking through their eyes or something.
Theif 3... I really need to beat that. I own it, just need to be in a mood to play it sometimes.

They make it feel like a run of the mill "8 out of 10" FPS to me because they look horrible most of the time.

I just played the FEAR demo and if you make the hands and feet like that it will be ok.

Holy Crap. I just got done playing the FEAR demo myself. That's a good game. Can't wait for it. Especially love the gun where it fries people. But anyway, what you saw pretty much was Riddick. It was the exact same engine only amped up with physics and effects that Riddick didn't have.

Even more important than seeing your own legs and feet is the fact that the character actually has a shadow in those games!
In Half-Life 2 it wasn't such a big deal, but in Doom 3 where the shadows were a huge part of the game it's strange that the player has no shadow. After playing Riddick and now the FEAR demo it feals weird to go back and play Doom 3 and have no feedback that your actually there other than the weapon.

I agree, I can't stand jumping puzzles in games that don't let me see my feet. Grrr.

Yes, shadow is a 'must have' as well. Again, without these things you feel like you're just a ghost that the other people see save when you have the weapon out. And then you're driven to wonder "Does my body consist of only arms?"
We all know that they can have us see our own bodies. If we can see other people in multiplayer then why not ourselves?

Sin had visible hands and had an ability to get them invisible too, personally it felt like ripping something away from the game when played without showing hands, so maybe an option for disabling it whilst there is always something to some ppl to whine about /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Oh, maybe an option to disable all graphics as well /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I like this, the developers taking time to go through their forums. Makes for better Consumer & Developer relations.

No, they aren't the same engine - Riddick runs on the Doom 3 engine, the FEAR engine is new.
Personally I couldn't care less if I can see my own feet in a game, most of the time it looks pretty goofy to me - sometimes that can prove amusing (trespasser's arm had me laughing) but most of the time it's a waste of rendering power which could be better spent elsewhere given 99.9% of the time a player should be checking his/her enviroment and not oggeling at virtual riddicks manly chest.

Actually, the Chronicles of Riddick runs on a proprietary engine developed by Starbreeze Studios (http://www.starbreeze.com/), and F.E.A.R. is running on Monolith's newest engine.
