Although I am not a big fan of the steam system what really gets me is that how Ritual expect people to pay over 120euro for a single game? I want to be able to play the entire game and therefore all the episodes but I wont pay over 100euro for it! Is Ritual planning to release a Gold version will all the episodes for a decent price?? I dont know anybody who will be willing to only play one episode and then leave it at that. Its like reading only one book out of a trilogy /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

so $146.29 in US, but I don't know how this guy came up with that figure in the first place! The price is not set at $20 its UNDER $20 a episode, with different options like HL2 did. Also I've heard no final word on how many episodics they plan to fully release, it depends on how many of us buy it!

First, your analogy to a book trilogy contradicts your theory. You argue that you don't want to pay a higher price for the complete Sin Episodes collection than you would pay for a normal, boxed game. But is a trilogy of books not more expensive than a single book? You have to accept the fact that episodic content will always be more expensive than a full piece, this is true for books, games and TV series (collect your Star Trek seven-season series on DVD, you will pay a LOT more for it than you would pay for a single movie!).

But the higher price is justified by more content. You'll get about six hours of gameplay per episode. If they really release six episodes (which would equal 120 Euros), you'll get around 6x6 = 36 hours of gameplay. Now that is more than you can shake a stick at! Which boxed game for the price of 50 dollars/Euros gives you 36 hours? Unless it's an RPG of course; but 36 hours is rare for an action game. Plus, consider just how damn good Sin Episodes will be. It will blow away the competition, at least for us fans. And that's all reason enough to spend the money.

Also, paying the big amount in small chunks of less than 20 per episode, and getting six hours of gameplay for such a small chunk, doesn't hurt that much even if you repeat it a few times, now does it? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What I find interesting is people trying to justify the very high cost! paying 120 euro for 36 hours of gameplay is not good whatever way you look at it! Deus Ex contains more than that and its a RPG style FPS, Half life 1 considering how many times I have played it is well over 36 hours but i only payed 30 euro for it.And the fact that the episodes are being released over time doesnt make it ok? What if Sin 3 they decide to charge 40 or 50 euro per episode? will that be ok because its spread out over a few months. What I do know is that alot of my friends who like myself are hardcore Sin fans wont be buying the sequel because of the pricing. I think in my opinion Ritual will be loosing quite a few fans due to the steam delivery method

They won't.

I'll say it again, episodic content is always more expensive if viewed as a single item, but it consists of many small items and you basically get a new game with every episode (yes, because every episode will be a standalone Sin story with an overall story arc over all episodes). And paying less than 20 dollars (let's assume it will be 17 dollars, that would be like 14,50 Euros!) for a short but brilliant game is perfectly acceptable to me. It is like buying a movie on DVD, the same price, and even longer entertainment time than a DVD. And if you want 36 hours of entertainment with movies, you'd pay the same amount of money you'll pay for all Sin episodes.

I wouldn't wonder if Ritual released all episodes in one pack for a smaller price as a bargain item, but you'd have to wait more than a year to get it, until all episodes are done. I, as many other fans, am not willing to wait that long and so we choose to stuff our cash in the greedy faces of Ritual - for they deserve to earn big bucks from us for undertaking THE FIRST EPISODIC AND SELF-FUNDED GAME DEVELOPMENT CYCLE EVER!

Just consider that for a moment. Sin Episodes is not just another game. It's the first big action game without a publisher to clutter things up. It takes Ritual great amount of work and money to do it all by themselves. We can only thank them and accept their pricing. And as I said, what's so different about this pricing compared to other episodic content?

$15 (11.96 Euros?) is the pricing I've heard for US. Episodes are supposed to be 3-6 hours playtime. It will cost more per hour of playtime than a normal full game. I'd be a lot happier if it were closer to $10 an episode, but I'll still buy at least the first one, and the others if it's good. Personally, I love Steam and I think it'll lead to an indie game development revolution, freeing us all from the horrors of publishers (creative interference, unreasonable release dates leading to incomplete/buggy releases, etc.). What I'd prefer for episodic releases would be to have the option of paying less (say around the price of a normal full game) for the whole set of episodes. If you don't like to think of it as paying for something you won't get for months, think of it as a subscription service. When I bought HL2 through Steam, I got the "silver pack," which included Counterstrike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, etc., which were not even out when HL2 was released. DoD:S still isn't out, but as soon as it is (sometime this month) I'll be able to download it and start playing without having to worry about making any additional payments. The only problem with this method for Sin is if this whole experiment fails and later episodes don't get released. I don't think that'll happen, and even if it did, they'd probably try to finish the whole thing as a single product, so I'd still get what I paid for.

I have to say, I find those whole thread amusing.
$15 us for 3-6 hours of gameplay?, fine by me. It's pocket change really.

You pay the same amount to go see a movie when you buy a drink and popcorn at the counter. I'd rather pay that amount and get longer, interactive content that I can play again and again.

$15 us. sheet. Who can't afford that much every 6 months. Jebus, scrimp a dollar a week, and you will still have enough for each episode every 6 months. Scrimp 50c a week and you'll have enough for each episode.

What the hell are you people whinging about?
