Since SiN: Episodes will use a heavily?-modified version of the Source engine, does anybody have any estimates at what kinds of results computers should have from 3DMarks 2001, 2003 or 2005 to run it comfortably?

Just had a hunch that Ritual might use 3DMarks or closely related program to evaluate the potential of the low/mid-end computers. I'm getting a new computer sometime near the end of this August, so I want some ideas on what I should load up in my trolly too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your best bet is either the latest or close to latest as possible model of Geforce or Radion which ever is your preference.

At least 512 ram

Pentium 4 at minimum. Any less and you'll be beating your head off a wall.

Aaaand if you're going for the retail version of SiN Episodes you'll probably want a CD drive. Just a thought.

Anything else would just be an accessory to your computer besides the standard Keyboard and mouse.

-EDIT-

Although, for best performance you're going to want THE latest Geforce or Radion, no exceptions.

An Athlon FX processor, if not then a 64bit would probably work just as well.

A gig of ram to be sure it won't cramp up in heated situations.

17 inchs or bigger monitor depending on what your wallet can lose. Don't go flat screen, there are angles on them which you can't see anything but white. A regular monitor.

If you're buying a new computer in August anyway, just get the best PC you can afford and it will run SiN Episodes fine.

If you're tailoring it for SiN Episodes though, basically look at what runs Half Life 2 the best. It's using the same engine + some modifications.

Correct, while the system requirements for SiN Episodes haven't been finalized yet, Half-Life 2's system requirements are a pretty good indication for what you're going to be needing.

From the Interviews sounds like Ritual put alot of work in the physics, Source does have a great physics system, but if your not careful you can break it (meaning major slow down). With PhysX coming out, will you guys be adding support for it?

Get an FX-55 or up, 1GB+ of memory, an Nvidia 7800GTX or Ati Radeon X850 XT PE, a Sound Blaster card, and you should be all set to run it at max settings.

My PC can run Half-Life 2 on extreme settings with no problems. Battlefield 2 is way more CPU and GPU consuming then Half-Life 2 and I can run it at max settings with no problem either so you should deffinately be all set for SiN: Episodes. If you get a PC along those specs.

BTW I just got my new PC a week or two ago! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ya I have no problems playing them too, My graphic card /system has no problem running it, it's all because
how careful the deveopler used the physics to not overload it.

Just the other day I was playing with the physic in HL2, and I changed some setting around and boy did really slowed down the game. You have to be very careful how you use it. Source seem to try's to slove the problem by reducing the accuracy of the physic when it hit a major load of work. So lets say your in a room of explosive barrels with a high end system, vs low end system. Even though you hit the same barrel in the same location they would end up, landing in different locations. (I'm just using this as example).

I understand Physic chips are new and cost some $$$, Everyone not going to run out and grab one, but Physics is like graphics you can adjust the Graphics details from low to high, and software mode / Hardware mode, same can be done with physics. So for us extreem computer g33ks we get extra goodies until it becomes common place. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
