Just wondering will sin episodes be using hdr like other source engine games.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. Afterall, when Half-Life 2: The Lost Coast is released, that will also roll out an update to the current Half-Life 2 game and the current SDK which will include all the HDR features.

It should be there, but it's just down to whether or not Ritual think it's worth utilising or not. Yeah, it looks great, but does it add anything to gameplay? I can't say I'm overly fussed about it at the moment...

Keep in mind that technology isn't always easy to implement. It's not a simple case of plugging in some pieces and bam everything is great. Introducing something new like that tends to throw off schedules quite a bit.

There are lighting production procedures to evaluate, scheduling, impact in visual quality and impact in system performance. Quite multi-layered.

That'd be a big "you want your game on time or do you want hdr.......game on time please.....game on time (when it's done, polished, purdy, and has breasts.......)

I don't doubt that the guys at Ritual want to have HDR, but if the feature isn't viable to use at this stage of development, then there isn't much they can do.

That said, the game is looking extremely hawt. I'll be satisfied either way.

People care far too much about new features, and not on the essential items, ie. Storyline, and gameplay.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA thats the funniest thing I ever heard. That hits the nail right on the head. What's a schedule again by the way?

Having said that, Tom Mustaine last week went on record of saying that even though you will be releasing new episodes, you will also be retofitting the old ones with new content as SOURCE continues to be updated.

So what if HDR may not be in the first episode now... that doesn't mean it won't EVER be integrated into the first episode or the series at a later date.

Of course, you are 100% correct. My original comment wasn't to say that we'd never do it or even never consider it. We certainly will consider it. Part of the reason I post on here is to give everyone else an inside look at how games are made to the best of my abilities. The post I made was to highlight the issues a developer has to keep in mind before implementing technology. Trust me, if HDR works well and we can put it in the game there's no reason not to. We're in the business of designing games that captivate our customers and any tool/technology that we can utilize within reason will be added to our tool chest.

Just to clarify... I wasn't making a criticism, I was simply making the point that players sometimes expect everything to be in an engine for its release. Now Valve has been working on their own HDR demonstration for quite some time, periodically showing off its capabilities in screenshots... as well as an early video test at E3 this year. It's no secret, however, that The Lost Coast has been planned for a release in November; meaning that it has taken the company an entire year to incorporate this technology into SOURCE.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that developers have to make a choice: delay a game that could prove fatal to its fan support, or leave things out until they are ready for implementation... annoying a number of people, but not the majority. In the end I've learnt that you can't please everyone (even if you try to), but some things take as long as they take, and SOURCE was the first engine to think about the idea long before Epicgames did with UE3.

At the very least, there are times when developers should be cut some slack and are not; people instead run their mouths about "you know why I think the delay happened", which was spurred when Valve's servers were hacked and the E3 tech demo was leaked.
