Am I the only one who is truly starving for news?

I mean, after all this years patiently waiting the game is announced and we get... what? A single blog entry? We are hungry!! Come on guys, throw us a bone!

Ritual, you are so cruel /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well, you're in some luck. We're shooting to finish our "vertical slices" this week.

A "vertical slice" is one section of the game that is essentially done visually. These sections of the game serve two purposes. The first is to establish the visual bar for the remainder of the game. The second is to give us areas that we can create screenshots from.

The early areas that you saw screenshots of have been revamped fairly significantly. Textures have been improved, the models have been reworked, etc.

Again, we don't mean to be silent...we just want to blow you away. Give us a few more days...you'll be glad you did.

The level side of the screenshot push is done. Final character model assets needed for the screenshots are being placed in the levels as I write this.

That means that this weekend, the screenshots should be taken, and the shots should start appearing across this here Intarweb-thingy shortly thereafter.

Personally, I can't wait to see what you guys think of the changes. I can definitely understand the drive to see what we've been working on. I'm just glad we're finally going to be able to show you the new stuff...

Brilliant news.

All i can say is: Make me play Sin:Episodes instead of Quake4. I'm convinced you guys are able to do it, as you have done it before (q1 / q2 )

Arnt we all /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

What I want to know is when it will be available on Steam (pre-download?), the release dates I have seen say it will be out in Early Q4, that would be sometime in the next couple of weeks wouldnt it?... not that I want anyone to be rushing the release of course (I dont want to be reminded of TR: AOD)

I have to say...i could never understand why id didnt hire Ritual for any q4 or d3 expansion stuff. Ritual just KNOW level design. I still remember each of the SIN DM maps. Pure brilliance. I think Raven musta gotten so bored cause the q4 maps sure as hell are boring....

SO WHERE are the new screens?? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Could you define 'a few more days' ??

Weeks ?? Months ?? Years ??

We had a bug with eyeballs not appearing on some models and some odd stretching on some of the new NPC's textures that took longer than expected to fix. Between that and a nasty flu bug that took out about a quarter of the office over the last week, it's been a mess.

Sorry about the delay...we're working on it.

Hi everyone, back after a long time to just relax away from the computer. Anyway, as for news... I wanna know how far the first episode will go. Like the average game play time. Cause if its below one hour I'd feel a little... I dunno, dissappointed is the word I suppose. Might be too strong but it gives the idea. If its going to be demo length I'd like to know about it ahead of time because honestly, I'm getting hyped about this. Watched the Anime, played the game (only SiN, not the expantion) loved them both and dying to use Blade's magnum again with more style. But yeah, I'd like to hear about the thought to be game play time for it at least. Oh, and an estimate on Harddrive space needed. I'll want to have space open for the moment it comes out. Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My guess is that it would take the average gamer anywhere from 3-6 hours to complete. However, for "speed runners", they would probably be able to complete it in less than an hour (barring cut-scenes). Of course, this is complete speculation, but it is what I have in mind for the length. I would love to be wrong and have it longer though.

Grandpapa

BrushBaron

The game easily takes more than 1hr to play. As for when it's done? When it's crispy golden around the edges and fluffy in the middle. Right now it's getting crispy around the edges but still needs a little more rising in the middle.

People weren't the problem, if the people really was the problem, then we should've had "Duke Nukem forever" by now or for that matter "Team Fortress 2".

HL2 was rushed in the release because of ATI, who saw its HL2-combo sales decrease rapidly especially after the release of Doom 3, which was packaged with certain Nvida cards . . .

Tiletron
11-08-2005, 06:11 PM
No, HL2 was rushed because a group couldn't wait for the game, so they decided to steal part of engine and leak it to the Internet for everyone to play. It might have been better than it was if that hadn't happened, but now we'll never know. Even last month for one of the scariest FPS games of the decade, F.E.A.R... 2 DAYS before being officially released to retailers, gets leaked to fans.

Ok, so occassionally there are hardware-manufacturers to blame, but the bigger problem in the industry today is the fact that some fans can't wait for a game legally, so they use the illegal method of obtaining it before its out for everybody. How would you feel if you worked for a developer, and there was even a level you didn't want anyone to get hold of until you were sure it was the very best you could make it... then after all that effort, it appears on fansites left and right and someone is claiming responsibility either for making it themselves or simply wants to embarrass the company you work for?

A few screenshots might be fine for some, but IMHO not seeing the game at all until December would be a great Christmas present to finish off the year with, and it would give Ritual some more leeway to iron out any bugs that may still be lurking in the code.

One thing i don't want to see in episodes, is unfinished graphics, like i found from HL L (http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bigpapa/d2_lostcoast0013.jpg)ostcoast, it's more like a tech demo, i know, but still /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Riddled
11-09-2005, 04:52 PM
No, no, no, that isn't unfinished graphics. Your not supposed to be there but the person designing the map was too lazy to stick a big invisible brush down the middle to stop us from getting there. I found that out on the first day as I travelled along the cliffside.

ALSO, you can fall out of the map underneath a big rock. I recorded myself doing it.

Serevinus
11-09-2005, 06:51 PM
I don't like it when mapmakers place invisible brushes (or small objects it looks like you should be able to jump over) to prevent you from leaving the playable area of a map, I remember a couple from SiN, they seem like bugs even though they are probably designed that way on purpose. There should be something there that looks like its going to stop you (fence, glass door), or a preventative measure that stops you from leaving the area (sentry gun, minefield).
I'm probably just being fussy /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Two things before I get back to testing "SiN: Episodes."

One, several shots are now done. Some have been sent off to press, others are going up soon.

Two, that was the only file in that folder, guys. Please stop trying to hack my personal web space trying to find more. It isn't cool, and it makes me feel less likely to do something similar in the future.

Heck, my server logs show more hack attempts than views of the picture!

I disagree. It's more like Michael held up a photo album for people to see one picture and when people tried to hack his computer, it's as if people tried to grab the photo album from his hands and read it on their own. That's not very nice and he and his property should be treated with more respect.

Otherwise, we'll have to do things differently so we can protect ourselves more.

People need to realize that we are doing this in our own time, trying to be nice and give something back. Michael is an extremely busy guy, working on two different projects and interfacing with the SiN community on a regular basis. People need to show him some more respect.

This reminds me of the time someone asked me for some money, I gave them five dollars and then they asked for more. I refused and the person started harrassing me, almost physically. I was nice once, but not again after that.

The SiN community is home to great people so lets be a bit more respectful of each other and respresent the community in a positive way.

Well said.

This goes back to what I was saying earlier. I do work for mods, and even though they may not be referred to as commercial in many standpoints, they are still considered possibly some form of IP. The truth is our work for mods, just like games, takes a lot of time and dedication. If you have no respect for what any of us do and the amount of effort we put in, there is little point in you playing the finished product, because that is where it all pays off.

Seeing it in development is good, but only if you have the common decency to not steal it from our own computers.

Michael_Russell

While I agree with the zero tolerance standpoint, I can also see the point about Ritual-run things like LegionPharma going dark because the people who were handling it got "wrapped up" big-time in "S:E", so I'm going to state this once and once only.

On occasion, I'm going to be authorized to bring you inside glimpses into our products, including "SiN: Episodes." When I am authorized to bring you those bits and pieces, I may find it necessary to host pictures and/or other files on my domain ( RomSteady.net (http://www.romsteady.net) ).

That is my personal domain, and is not associated with Ritual in any way, shape or form.

Any detected hack attempts against my server after this post goes up shall be immediately reported to the offender's ISP.

Okay, enough deep, depressing verbage. I've got to get back to testing...
