Smoke Grenades
 
I'd like to know if Ritual will intend use a partical system for smoke grenades (moving away from sprites) and the like for CS:CZ and if it will be made for future releases of CS?

From what I gather, CZ will have volumetric smoke instead of sprites. Not sure if that'll show up in future CS releases.

Whats unrealistic about the flash bangs?

im not sure about what the smoke will be when the game ships but I have seen the volumetric smoke and it kicks the hell out of the sprites I saw back in the day.
Volumetric smoke is a way to create a fog effect by adding white to all the pixels past a certain point.
Unreals fog is volumetric if you have ever seen that before.

ooh. okay. the flashbangs sound like crap, (i mean, compare the sound to real fb sounds!) and the ringing in your ears isn't there :P

I can tell you for a fact if you have not seen it already that the new smoke nades they are testing in 1.6 BETA are pretty cool. The smoke nade instantly exploded into a large smoke cloud and then trickles out some more smoke. Definitely good stuff.

As to the flashes. Yes would be nice if in addition to blinding you they leave you deaf or give you a slight ring in the ears. Seen the ringing done in the new Vietcong multiplayer demo. Though making someone deaf would probably be easier to do.

i extracted the flashbang wav from raven shield. i can send it to ritual. i think the volumetric smoke grenades are a bad idea. in cs 1.6 beta, the smoke gets in the way of the screen and i cant see what's going on.

AAO (that's America's Army: Operations for all the newbies) has the best smoke/flash FX/SFX I've seen yet, is this close to what CZ will have?

ok whatever. ill spray you with machine gun fire and kill you in the smoke and walk over your dead body without knowing it.

how are you going to make the flashbangs more realistic? i heard about this pokemon cartoon that was shown in japan and it harmed the eyes of children who watched the cartoon cuz it had too many high contrast psychodelic colors. maybe you could try to flash a sequence of bright colors at the screen to temporarily blind the player for a duration of time like 60 seconds. include an annoying ringing sound like the sound made when you write with chalk on a chalkboard or shovel cement on a hard surface.

Imagine this
Two players are hunkered down in a room waiting for the enemy to come around the corner. All of a sudden the faint sound of a grenade flying into the room and landing in the corner alerts both players. One of the players yells out “OH NO ITS FLASH DANCE FEVER! GET OUT NOW!” One player begins to dive around the corner but it’s too late. The rhythmic sound of chalk boards being scratched to a disco beat take over his head phones as the screen goes into a kaleidoscope effect with dancing virgins like the beginning of a James Bond flick. After this continues for 45 seconds a CT finally finds his character playing a curled up in a ball animation in the corner of the room. He shoots him to save his sorry ass from another 15 seconds of disco fever. On his screen a message appears that simply says “You aer hte losAr!!!1111”

Sometimes its not just a feature. ITS PART OF THE GAME!!!!!!
