This Is nuts

First it was half life episode 1 now it this Sin Episode 1.
Ive never had any problems loading ANY games but these 2.
It will not load, the auto-load and the "explore" will not do it.
I can see the disk light for about 2 seconds then nothing But If I go to my older computer I-Machine they both load.
I am with steam but I dont want to download their game when i brought one.
So now what?

Re: This Is nuts

I could be wrong, but it sounds like the Steam installation problem where the installer hangs while installing Steam.

Is that it?

Re: This Is nuts

Maybe I didnt word it right...lol

I brought the game sin emergence episode 1...

Put it in the disk drive and nothing happens....
nothing on the screen...nothing.
Any other games I load there is no problems loading and playing.

The exact same thing happens with half life episode one.

BUT all the other half life games work.

Okay, so it's not autoplaying and bringing up the installation screen automatically?

Can you go to Start Menu - Run - Browse and manually select the installer?

Re: This Is nuts

HL2: Episode 1 and Sin: Episode 1 both can't be "explored" you say?

That's easy: you don't have a DVD drive.

Both games are distributed (via retail) on DVDs. THAT's why the drive lights up briefly but fails to continue as it can't understand what kind of disc it is! CD drives exibit such behavour when confronted with DVDs.

I guess all those little messages and sys requirements on game boxes are for decoration.

EDIT: For what it's worth, you can still use the discs if you do not wish to keep up to date with optical technology. Just enter the DVD-KEY you get with the game in Steam, and you can download the data instead of getting from the disc (assuming you're not on dial-up).

I have to agree with Forumalist the game is on a DVD and if you hacve a CD/R/RW, It would not work you need a DvD Drive in order to get the game going. Other wise return the game for a refund or go postal and do what this kid done... http://www.ebaumsworld.com/2006/07/hissyfit.html. I would Recomend a sledge hammer for the computer If you plan to go APE :D!!

Or you could just buy a DVD drive on eBay. You can get them cheap. In fact, there's a nifty little combo drive (CD-RW/DVD) that's selling for 12 bucks (including shipping) right now.
