Joystick problems

10/03/06

Using information found in this forum I've been able to fix close to 75% of the problems using a joystick in this game. The most helpful is the one from SlicTrix regarding the pitch and yaw threshold settings.

The only problem I now have is that Gordon moves side to side (strafes) with left and right movement of the "X" axis of the stick and I can't find a setting or a change or a *.cfg file to produce the character movement that I have in H/L, H/L 2 etc. What I mean is that, in H/L 2, if I move the stick toward 2 o'clock the character moves in that direction etc etc. or reverse the stick toward 10 o'clock the character moves that way.

Has anyone found a solution to this???

Thanks, great forum.

Re: Joystick problems

Well have you got HL2 or HL2 Demo, to test whether it happens in HL2?

You bet, been playing H/L and mods since early in it's release and H/L 2 since as quick as i could get it. Orig H/L had some bugs at first (probably I had the bugs), but "2" worked great right out of the box. Eventually had some config problems with vehicles in "2" but finally, with the help of guys in forums, was able to solve that prob with an autoexec.cfg file using the joy_advanced series of commands.

What is confusing is that the joystick related lines in the SE config file (that I know of) are almost exactly (very small value diffs) like those in H/L 2.

I'm using a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 stick (only because my old MS Sidewinder stick wouldn't work with Win XP)

'preciate your interest.

Ok then, basically Ritual are using an older version of the Source Engine in Sin Episode 1.

They are currently in the stage of upgrading it, testing it, and then releasing it.

I do not have a timeframe on this, but once it has been updated. This will probably cure your problems, but until then I don't know what to suggest.

Cheers

Re: Joystick problems

I guess I was not clear that the game I'm having trouble with is "Sin - Episodes, Emergence" not "Sin 1" Is "SEE" also using an older Source engine???

I also use a joystick, (in addition to a mouse). I see what youíre talking about. I use the same joystick.cfg from HL2 for SEE but hadnít noticed that SIN doesn't honor the "joy_advaxisx" setting because I use the X-axis for strafing and turn using the mouse.

It's probably a bug like the reversed X-axis in HL2 vehicles. If you don't want to wait for a possible fix from Ritual, you could use the profiler software for your stick to program keystrokes to the axis. If your stick didn't come with software for this, you can use "Joy2Mouse" from:
