How do i remove the shinney/refelections from metal textures?
 
can someone tell me how i can remove the shinney effect from certain metal textures?

i'm using one called Dark_riveted_spec (i think its spec) anyways when i get into my level it keeps like shinning bright white at certian angles its annoying and would look much better if i could just remove that effect off it all together.. is this possible? I was hopeing to use this map with the default textures so i would hope i could do it without having to include any extra files... thanks!

Most of the textures with these effects also have a clean version, look for a texture named simply "dark_riveted", the spec at the end means "specular" which is this particular kind of effect.

More specifically, the shader can be edited to remove the environmental effects.

Locate textures/metals/dark_riveted_spec in the metals.shader file. (this file should be in your scripts directory)

Remove these lines from the shader, including the curly braces:

{
map textures/metals/envmap_dark.tga
blendFunc GL_DST_COLOR GL_ONE
tcGen environment
}

I suggest you copy this shader to your own shader file if you plan on distributing this map.

Well i was hoping to submit it as a fakk 2 arena map, they said they only want the map file and they would compile it, does this mean i cant use these textures without that specular effect?

Only if you find the texture without the shader effect applied.
