Re: Game hardcoded to be impossible?

Or maybe you're playing the boxed version but haven't let Steam download the patch that fixes the dynamic difficulty system, which was wonky in the initial release.

Re: Arena Map Lab

Sorry for the delay in replying, been kinda busy and forgot about it. Link because the pic is too wide for the forum:

Thumbs up Re: arena_faith (Beta)

This is a solid and well constructed map. Good flow and it seemed like the AI was navigating pretty well between the different areas.

Some areas felt a bit empty - perhaps add dummy doors to some of...

Re: map Infiltration (work in progress)

It's early days for this, so early that there's really not much to say about the map itself. Generally the rooms are small, simple boxes so far which usually isn't too inspiring to fight in. You are...

Re: Arena Map Lab

It feels a lot more interesting to move around the overall space now as there are more places where you get a choice of different areas to move into, but I still think you have quite a lot of 'dead...

Re: Arena Map Lab

This has a much more solid and coherent feel than your last map.

I think as far as the layout goes, things might be a bit too spread out. It felt like I was spending all my time bounding down...

Re: Help With Lights

I had this a couple of weeks back and I can't remember with absolute certainty what the problem was in the end. However I think it might have been because it was a test map that wasn't properly...

Re: question concerning telephone thing

There's flyers, posters, billboards, blimps etc. throughout the game that have working phone numbers on them.

Post Re: Arena_warehouse

Didn't like this at all I'm afraid. Which means, heaven help us all, it's... constructive criticism time!

This is what is known in the trade as a 'box map'. Basically you've started by making a big...

Re: Making An Arena Mode Map

The main reason for not knowing where to start with a tool like Hammer or Radiant (Radiant is basically the same sort of tool as Hammer but for Quake 3, Wolf: ET etc.) is not knowing what the...

Re: Using graphics tablets with Hammer

I had a feeling it would be a method of working thing! Since I spend most of my time working in Max these days I tend to be very focused on using my pointing device for navigating 3D space, which...

Re: Arena_MeatLoop_Beta

Aesthetics: At first I thought the light in the exterior area was completely white, but you can see it's yellowish in the interior areas so. Might be because the start point has you staring right at...

Using graphics tablets with Hammer

I've been fiddling around with using my Wacom for working with displacement surfaces, like you would do in Max or whatever. For actual painting of height or alpha it works fine, a shame it doesn't...

Re: Black fence

Use a prop_static to use one of the fence models. IIRC most of the useful fence bits are in the docks folder.

Re: Using This Board

Here are some lessons learned from years of hanging about on mapping boards, mostly for Quake 3 stuff. All of this stuff is just my opinion, but it's based on years of watching what annoys people or...

Re: Valve announced so many new titles yesterday...

Yep. Sadly it was originally made at 125 square (http://www.bad-apple.net/sin_avatar.gif) for use on another forum, so it's ended up slightly blurry here.

Re: Valve announced so many new titles yesterday...

Wow. Brave move by Valve with the look of TF2, I'm impressed that they have had the balls to focus their art direction into something quite different, rather than sticking with run of the mill...
