To answer your question I don't have any other firewalls installed. This is what I have found out so far. First I tried turning the sound quality to low, with no luck. I installed HL2 and had the same crashing problems. I was pretty sure my problem was linked to the soundcard drivers for the onboard realtek AC '97. I tried disabling it in Windows but still got crashes. I turned off hardware acceleration in dxdiag with no effect. Realtek released a new driver on the 19th of May and i installed it but got the same results. This morning I disabled the on board sound drivers in bios and the game ran the first opening scene with no crashes. I had to go to work so I haven't had time to test it more but it seems that the onboard audio is causing the problem.
