Default CS Problem: Hardware Video Mode doesn\'t work

Hi,

In CS, I tried changing the video mode from software to hardware. However, after that, the game often crashes (in DirectX, mostly), and in during the game, there is often a sudden lag lasting for 3 - 5 seconds. As you can imagine, this is quite disconcerting.

I am using nVidia's latest drivers (53.03) on my PIV with a 64 MB GeForce2 MX 400, on my Win XP PC.

Can anyone tell me what's going on, and what I can do to remedy the situation?

Thanks,
Wild Thing

I don't have an answer to your question. But I'm guessing (as this is your first post) you came here after searching for a counter-strike forum. This isn't the place for to go for answers to technical problems. If you are playing cs on steam (cs 1.6) I would suggest to head to www.steampowered.com/forums . They will probably be able to help you more than anyone here.

Try using OpenGL instead of D3D and see if that fixes your problem. Using D3D for HL/CS is really not something I'd recommend.
