Default Valve & Activision Partnership

In reply to:

Activision, Inc. and Valve, L.L.C. jointly announced today a strategic partnership that grants Activision exclusive worldwide publishing rights to upcoming games created by the premiere PC game developer. The multi-title agreement underscores Activision's commitment to partner with top development talent and will expand the company's PC portfolio.

Included under the terms of the agreement, Activision has acquired the publishing rights to Day of Defeat, a multiplayer game powered by Valve's Half-Life technology. Day of Defeat is scheduled for release this May.

"Valve has a proven track record of creating ground-breaking games with worldwide appeal," said Larry Goldberg, executive vice president of Activision Worldwide Studios. "We share with Valve the common goal of delivering the best games possible and with the upcoming launch of Day of Defeat we look forward to kicking-off a strong and successful partnership."

[/ QUOTE ]Okay, Activision bought the rights to publish upcoming games created by Valve. Does this deal cover all Valve franchises including Counter-Strike, Half-Life and Team Fortress? More importantly, did Activision acquire the publishing rights to Condition Zero from Vivendi?

Good news is games published under this partnership will get cool flash sites, designed by Ignited Minds, instead of the dull and boring static sites put out by Vivendi.

Vivdeni is still publishing Condition Zero.

There's no official word yet on what franchises this deal covers, but apparently DoD is the first of several Valve games to be distributed by Activision.

Official Press Release: Activision and Valve Announce Multi-Title Publishing Partnership
[*]Day of Defeat is the only title confirmed so far.[*]Valve owns the rights to the Half-Life technology.[*]No mention of Steam.[*]Activision supports the integration of PunkBuster anti-cheat software into games. This doesn't mean PunkBuster will return because Valve operates autonomously for the most part, similar to Activision's business with id Software.[*]Counter-Strike: Condition Zero may be the last title published by Vivendi.[/list]
