Default Hosting A SiN: Steam Server

In order to successfully set up a SiN DM or CTF game you will need to follow the instructions below.
__________________________________________________ __________

1. Install the Half Life Dedicated Server tool through Steam.

2. Download the Half Life Dedicated Server Update Tool.

3. Install the tool into a directory of your choice. (e.g. C:\sinserver\)

4. Open a command prompt and run the exe with the following command line.

hldsupdate.exe -command update -game sin -dir <gamedir>

Where <gamedir> is the directory you want the files to be downloaded to (e.g. C:\sinserver). You may need to set your firewall to allow access for the program.

5. Once the files are downloaded, load the correct batch file for the gametype you want to host. ds_sinctf.bat or ds_deathmatch.bat.

You need set a hostname in order for your server to appear as a name other than <noname> in the Steam server browser.
__________________________________________________ _________

Then clients can join the server by using Steam's server browser (accessible from the taskbar menu) and selecting SiN 1 as the game filter.

FYI:

the server works just fabulous with Linux/Wine (tested with Wine 0.9.6).

Best regards,
DocSnyder

P.S.: The Sensemann servers are running with Wine...

LOL that was a good one, but he might allready have done that!, HEHEHEHHEHE

I know one thing, I hope all of this NEW hard work pays for all of the OLD hard work!, Sin has always been a great game, Darn if only HL was not released close to the same time. Sin could have been on top.

Are there any plans on making a Linux port of the dedicated server? Valve's been doing so and distributing them on Steam, so I don't think distribution would be much of a problem.

I found this old setup guide you guys hosted:

http://www.ritualistic.com/htc/server/index.html

I was trying out Foo's recommendation to set sv_gravity to 550 instead of 800 in the server.cfg. However, whether I used 'set sv_gravity "550"' or just 'sv_gravity "550"' it shows up as an unrecognized command. All other server.cfg commands work fine.

However, when I manually type 'sv_gravity 550' in the console on the server box after it's fired up, it takes.

?

edit: Although it accepts the manually typed sv_gravity value, it doesn't appear to be persistent and resets to 800 on map change.

Default Hosting A SiN Steam Server

What will be the budget, this days not many hosts are offering cluster server reseller hosting but there are companies who offer good service even in stand alone servers
