The screencaps can't quite convey all the scripted sequences showcased in the trailer. It's quite amazing that all of this is based on the Quake 1 engine.

May will be a great month for Counter-Strike fans..

I've been told the CGW trailer and the majority of screenshots circulating the net are outdated. A new game trailer will be released either when the official site goes live or during the CS bonanza @ E3.

I'm wondering but that boat map doesn't seem to be r_speed friendly.

otherwise it looks awsome, especially that all beeing on the rather limited HL-engine.

R speeds on the boat are well with in acceptable ranges.
Even before I started work on the level it was extensively hinted by the original map author. R speeds have never been a problem with that level believe it or not.
If you look at the level on a technical stand point you would easily understand that it is very well designed to work with in the bounds of BSP limitations. You can get away with some really amazing levels if you understand how BSP works.

when you say ragdoll physics, are you kidding us? I thought that would be impossible with the Half Life engine. Kinda hard to believe... lol

Precompiled animations that use a true physics engine
That’s why in past interviews it was always said that the physics are being used for the animations but never mentioned anything about adding true rag doll physics to the engine. We are using Rag doll physics so to speak but it’s not being done in real time.
I would say that its really just a pretty clever idea that adds a bit more polish to the game and makes killing guys just a bit more interesting.

and to top it off, there's cases where the pre-animated sequences look many times better than the rag-doll implementations in recent game engines.

when theres a dead player on the ground, can you shoot him or push him around with the ragdoll physics in play?

pre-animated does this mean that they will still clip trough the wall?

ANd the pre-animated raggdol sequences are they dependant on the enviroment? I mean if someone gets shot near a stair he will bounce off, near a wall he will sit with his back against the wall and slide down or something?

or are the death animation just optimized with the ragdoll thingy?

the half-life engine does not have an internal physics engine to drive colision and ik-based real-time animations. expect to see some really cool animations. don't expect to see miracles at work before your eyes.

Thanks. As the original author of de_vessel, I can say it was probably the most complicated map in CZ as we left it. It went through so many revisions before it reached the state in which you see it now, so I was glad to see it fairly intact (although I *did* notice a few extra crates here and there =). I'm looking forward to what you guys do with CZ.

A mission that takes place on a research vessel in the middle of the ocean where an enemy team is attempting to detonate a large bomb and disable the ship.

Is this an accurate description of de_vessel?

Wow
Lately it has been getting harder and harder for me to speak freely on the forums.
I humbly welcome all skilled in the art of level design.
Although on the outside things may appear to be what we once knew the inner workings have become a new creation. The only times I have ever collaborated with other level designers we always started from nearly the beginning together planning things out as we went along… This however has been one of the oddest occurrences I have experienced thus far. What can I say? Nothing… And perhaps I have already said too much…
