Default Serious Problem, serious question

Now understand this, I reaaly reaaly really want to like this game, but for some reason Every time there are enemies(more than say 3 enemies) nearby, my computer (Pentium 4 2.0 ghz, Radeon 9000 pro, 192 mb ram, 550-970 mb page file, if you need any other stats, feel free to ask for them here) starts to lag simply awfully, and I can no longer do anything! I am much dismayed by this turn of events, and thus am writing this in order to find out from the devs, what could my computer possibly not have. I note once agains that the game only lags when there are more than a few enemies around me(not necessarily on the screen, in fact I can have no enemies on the screen but if there are several nearby my comp still lags), and only then. Devs, help!

What settings do you have the game set to?

Can you run DXDIAG and tell us what driver revision you are using for your video card? Also what resolution and texture detail are you using? If you've changed your video settings from what they defaulted to what did you change? You can delete your .CFG file that was added in your /BASE/ folder to have the game generate a new configuration file.

I have Radeon 9000 pro drivers 6.14.0001.6307
I've checked on the ATI site, those are the newest.

I just ran the game on it's standard settings (i deleted the cfg like you said),the problem yet remains

Do you have a VIA chipset motherboard? If so you'll likely need the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers. Next check with your audio hardware manufacturer site. Typically it ends up being 1 of 4 things. DirectX, Video Driver, Sound Driver, or 4-in-1 driver for VIA boards.

if a newer via driver set doesn't help you could try a previous version.. when I updated to v4.38 I ran into a bunch of problems including a overall system performance descrease.. I went back to v4.33 and everything is running smoothly, overall performance is up where it should be now..

If he has an Intel CPU (P4) then it isn't likely he has a VIA mobo. They're are several boards out there that support Pentium processors and have the VIA chipset but it's still kinda new.
