![]() hi. I have been running EF2 on my old computer since it came out without any trouble. i recently got a new pc, and now the game seems to have developed a problem. the game starts up perfectly fine, and displays no problems during game play. but it will always (at seemingly random times) freeze, and i am forced to restart my computer. i have tried messing with the different graphics options, and that seems to have no effect. i have also tried completely uninstalling the game, and then reinstalling, but the problem persists. I am running on a Windows XP system. I have a 128MB Radeon 9700. I have over a gigabyte of RAM, and a 3.2 gigahertz Pentium 4 processor. i can provide more specifications if necessary. the computer is practically brand new (like a week or so old) so i can't imagine that there is any driver issues, unless they are possibly too high. I found people that had similar problems in the forum, but they all received some type of error message, and my game is just freezing, so i decided to post. i would appreciate any help you could give.

![]() Ive got a hunch its not the game, but rather your processor fan is not upto the job of cooling properly. I used to get the same problem when my ASUS A7V8X hit 62 degrees celcius and would keep freezing.

![]() I don't have too many files on my computer, only a few games. I have a farily large documents section. not more that a few gigabytes though. my harddrive is only about 1/4th full. i really hope it isn't my fan, cause there probably wouldn't be any way of fixing that would there?

![]() I am having the same freezing problems. I have all the most recent drivers, have very few programs running in the background, and my cpu is liquid cooled(in other words it isn't a heat issue). I have had problems with other games and usually the fix for that was disabling EAX because someone said the more recent drivers from Creative were flawed. I tried that with EF2 and it didn't seem to help either.
So anyone have any more ideas? Isomorph |

![]() Have you tried disabling Anti-Aliasing before running EF2?

![]() Yeah I disabled FAA and AF and it still freezes randomly. I also tried turning down some of the video settings which also didn't help. Here's my pc:

![]() What motherboard do you have?
Because now I rechecked what you said about Disabling EAX, it sounds like you might have a IRQ Conflict. I've had this before with my sound card, on a previous MB. This caused games (EF1) to stutter and crash under heavy loads. Im not sure if this is your problem, but its worth a look. |

![]() Interesting, I checked this out and I just noticed that both my Audigy and my Radeon are on IRQ 16. I've never noticed this before. I'm gonna try and change this and see if it helps.
EDIT: I forced the Audigy to a different irq so the radeon is no longer sharing an irq with something that vital. Windows doesn't register it as a conflict but I figure having both the sound card and video card on the same one was probably taxing the system. I'll test it in a little while and see if the problem is fixed. Isomorph |

![]() Is this the only place to get tech support for EF2?

![]() Sadly, Yes. As Activision no longer supports EF2 or Star Trek games published under its name.
