I have seen one reference to this error somewhere, but the suggested fix did not help me. It was that there were two instances of steam.dll on the system and that is what caused the error. I have done a search and only found one instance of steam.dll, so that is not it.

The error is "SteamStartup() failed: SteamStartup(0xf,0x0012E054) dailed with error 108: Local Steam Service is not running" in an "OK" box.

Anyone else seen this or know how to fix it??

There's another thread going on about this as well. Unfortunately, we at Ritualistic are not experts on Steam and this error has eluded us so far. Have you tried asking on steampowered.com forums or submitting a trouble ticket through steam?

Just to be clear, this ONLY happens when I attempt to load SiN: Emergence. The other Valve games play without a problem.

I understand. I'll ask the team if they know why this might be happening. I've personally never had it happen to me, so I don't have any potential fix for you at the moment. I'll keep digging.

A quick google search reveals that MANY people have had this problem with any number of games on steam. It appears to be a shot in the dark as to whether or not you'll get the filesystem error. There are also a lot of potential solutions which work for some people and not others. I'd recommend a trouble ticket or steampowered.com forums for a fix to this issue as it is not SiN-related.
