![]() Every time I launch EF II I get the following error message, "server crashed: ::loadfile:couldn't load save/*/heuristics.log"... This happens just after spawning entities and starts loading the script. The demo is hung up and will stay on loading forever, until I escape out.
This with a 9700np, cat 3.2, sblive value, dx9.0a, win98se, 256mb ram. Whats up with that? |

![]() Have you tried the command line revision suggested in this message base yet? I've echo'd it below...
"Wanted to swing this by some of the boards out here for all our radeon users. Apparently for those with radeon's there is a fix for the demo locking up. Just set this: "C:\Program Files\EF2\EF2.exe" +set r_precompressed_textures 0 Hope you guys enjoy the demo!!" |

![]() Delete the heuristics.log file it's identifying. Also go ahead and delete your .cfg file in your /base/ folder. That will force the game to redetect your computer configuration settings. Then launch the game without touching anything in the advanced video options. See if that gets you into the game before changing your configuration options.

![]() Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the demo? Maybe some files didn't get installed correctly.

![]() Have you tried redownloading the EF2 demo from a different location and reinstalling the demo to a non-default path? I searched several sites and couldn't find any info on that specific error.

![]() Back to those files PE said about deleting, are you sure they aren't on your system?
The heuristics.log file (on my machine) is located in C:\Program Files\Activision\Star Trek Elite Force II Single Player Demo\base\save\...\ The *.cfg file is located in C:\Program Files\Activision\Star Trek Elite Force II Single Player Demo\base\ |

![]() Are you running a HyperThreading Processor? If you are turn off HyperThreading or disabled Flares in the games advanced video settings window.

![]() I notice that after I install the game but don't run it that a save folder has not been created yet. Then after I run it once there is a save folder BUT no folder underneath containing the heuristic log.......Looks like something is preventing this from being created.

![]() So far, nobody with the full version of EF2 has reported a problem caused by heuristics.log.

![]() Well well well. Guess what? Got the full version and I CAN'T PLAY!!! I'm now getting an invalid page fault in either an unknown module or in the kernel32.dll. I have tried several catalyst drivers, uninstalled/installed game, directX etc. Needless to say I can't return the game, I would appreciate some help trouble shooting this.

![]() This is getting more and more interesting.... I cannot launch a single play game, keep getting invalid page fault errors in "unknown" module . Followed all the trouble shooting tips above same error. BUT I can play multiplayer no problem with all settings MAXED. I noticed again I don't have a heuristics.log in my save game folder. At what point is this log created upon install or at launch of new game?

![]() Heuristics.log is updated every time you load and exit a single-player level. Here's the info inside mine:
Level: m0-intro ShotsFired: 0 ShotsHit: 0 NumberOfDeaths: 0 EnemiesKilled: 0 TimeOnLevel: 10.550 PlayerHealth: 100.000 Ping: 0 ItemsPickedUp: 0 SpecialEvents: 0 SkillLevel: 0.000 m0-intro_end Level: ent-deck11 ShotsFired: 0 ShotsHit: 0 NumberOfDeaths: 0 EnemiesKilled: 0 TimeOnLevel: 10.550 PlayerHealth: 100.000 Ping: 0 ItemsPickedUp: 0 SpecialEvents: 0 SkillLevel: 0.000 ent-deck11_end |

![]() OK but im wondering if I have an installation problem. Should there be a blank heuristics log in the save folder to begin with. Also if I bring down the console when I'm changeing video/audio settings I can see it say could'nt write to cfg file? over and over....

![]() Launch EF2, go to the main menu, bring down the console and type maplist. Try to load enttraining1.bsp and see what happens.

![]() It seems like you don't have permission to create files or write to them. Is your EF2 directory read only? If running Win 2000 / XP, do you have Administrator priviledges?

![]() No I'm using win98se. Its not write protected. Maplist does nothing. The message in the console is could not write to *.cfg.

![]() The maplist command only works from the main menu. I'd like to know what you meant by "maplist does nothing." Did the command bring up a map selection window or did the engine fail to load the map you selected?
If maplist doesn't work, try typing map ent-training1 in the console. Hmm... maybe a pak is corrupt. Compare your pak filesizes with those below: locpak1.pk3 186,985,165 bytes pak0.pk3 22,817,218 bytes pak10.pk3 173,190,103 bytes pak15.pk3 78,944,133 bytes pak16.pk3 51,378,120 bytes pak20.pk3 159,272,090 bytes pak30.pk3 126,401,560 bytes pak31.pk3 94,540,050 bytes pak32.pk3 184,504,216 bytes |
