Can't Install

I had EF2 installed 2 years ago, and I was trying to install it today. I think I must have done something wrong, because I can't install it. It just says that it detects a previous installation.

There is nothing in my registry, and I've searched my computer for any files. I don't know where it could be checking that the game is still installed.

Please help!

First, please make sure it was completely uninstalled ( See answer #11123 in Activision's support archives. .)

Second, make sure you aren't running as a "Power User" or as a "Limited User." You must be running as an Administrator to play or install the game.

If that doesn't work, we'll go deeper.

This answer is for an Advanced user. Please do not attempt the below solution if you are not comfortable editing the Registry. Damaging the Registry could result in very adverse effects to your system. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

# To manually uninstall the game you need to Delete both the game folder and the registry entries for the game.
1) Go to the directory where you installed the game (Default is C:Program FilesActivisionEF2) and delete the whole EF2 folder.
2) Click the Start button > Run
3) Type:

regedit (Press the Enter key) This will bring up the registry editor.

4) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREActivisionElite Force II and Delete it.
5) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionUninstallStar Trek Elite Force II and Delete that. This should remove the game completely from your system.

# It might also be required to remove the EF2.INI file for the game:
1) Click the Start button > Programs > Windows Explorer.
2) In the left pane, choose the drive Windows is on.
3) In the right pane, double-click on the Windows folder.
4) Again in the right pane, scroll down until you find a file named EF2.INI(the file should have an icon of a notepad with a yellow gear on it).
5) Highlight and delete the file.
6) Try to install the game now.
