![]() Sweet Article and screenshots. Sounds like Ritual has had their hands on this for longer then we've been led to believe.

![]() Yeah, an old Half-Life engine really makes baby jesus cry. Sure they can tweak things but its still 4 years old.

![]() I suppose the problem here is that it needs to be compatible to Counter-Strike.

![]() I have seen many people on forums and on IRC say they would rather see CZ on a new engine.
Im not saying thats a bad thing at all however in my opinion it would be harder than hell to get the game to have that same feel of Counter strike on a new engine. What would the odds be for any developer to recreate what some may consider to be one of the largest spoofs of known FPS history in a new engine? Believe me if I knew this secret I would start my own company and get cracking right away. Also id like to point out that even though this engine is pretty old you can still do some really cool and fun game play. All of the level designers on this project came from more modern engines and I feel it hasnt really harmed the visual quality we expect from ourselves that much. hehe |

...I feel it hasnt really harmed the visual quality we expect from ourselves that much. hehe .... ---Castle of Ritual Entertainment Speaking on the Half-Life Engine [/ QUOTE ] Pretty obviouse the engine is a worn out old thang that will indeed hamper some of what the boys (and sheep) at Ritual would like to do. So all you fanboys of Rit now can say they indeed do sacrifice thier artistic abilities for the cash job, otherwise they would have passed on this one. Now I don't blame a guy (or that transvestite Levelord)for feeding his family, that's for sure, but this is kind of like Picasso using spray paint. It's only down hill from here...... |

![]() I express myself more than just throug visual eye candy
in my work I find ways to allways get my vision accros even if I was working with the doom 1 engine. And believe it or not I enjoyed working with the old tools just as much as I like working with the most cutting edge stuff now. And im having a god damn blast working on this game =P |

![]() Yeah, quite honestly I can see where it'd be fun to work with HL engine based games again. With the newer tech you have all these different scripts, camera scripts, ai scripts, brush scripts, etc. It can get REAL technical and overwhelming for a LD. With Worldcrap or whatever you guys use, it's all about designing rather than programming.
Plus with a HL engine, it's almost like a console now, you develop for it, and you know it's going to work on peoples machines because it's so stable. |

![]() Well, I know some things can be spiffed up in an old engine. Any of you ever play Laser Arena by TrainWreck? It used the Q1 engine and DIDN'T only have grey and brown colors...hehe.
For me, the funny part about Laser Arena was after playing the demo, we got hooked enuff to pick up a copy even thou it was a "value" title...the laser grenades are da shiz...hehe. |
