I think it goes something like this....

Power stations will shutdown, not all of them at first, but enough non y2k compliant ones will to cause a chainreaction that shuts them all down.

All perishable food that is left will go bad. New food will not be able to be shipped cause of the power loss and cause gas will be hard to get into vehicles cause no power to gas pumps.

Looting will be rampant and fires will break out and not be able to be contained by the incompacitated fire departments.

They wont beable to restart power grid because they all will be down, everyone will die, stock up on supplies now!!!

Hehe sounds exciting huh? Thats the extremists view anyway, I dont think much will happen, at least not to the USA. But other countries are not as far along as we are for y2k compiancy, and the word economy directly affects us so...

this is a message to those of you living in distant countries.. if you are unsure of your countries Y2K readieness MOVE TO THE USA!!! i cant say for sure that we will be ready or not BUT i CAN say that it will be one HELL of a party on the 31st!!! (which btw is my birthday )

--actually my view on the whole Y2K prob is that it is MOSTLY a Media Hype.. i dont think things are gonna be as bad as some are saying... yea, some 3rd world countries will have problems BUT i think (or, rather hope) that we will survive the comming new year... i would LOVE to make it to another birthday!!! just to say that i did...

Third World Countries have little computer-run resources. They shouldn't be in too much trouble.

Yes, the only threats that exist in Y2K are electronic, and individual human threat (people afraid, rioting, etc).

THERE WILL NOT be any freakin' armageddon... no asteroids, no floods, no freak storms, etc. Nature doesn't go buy this system of time we've developed, anything about the end of the world is totally on OUR hands.

Nuclear weaponry going off, well I'm pretty damned sure those computer systems were the first to be taken care of when this Y2K threat even started... psssh... they (gov'ts) probably fixed them up a long time ago.

Power plants the same thing... gov'ts have taken care of it all.. a long time ago...

The only reason why there's a Y2K scare is for the money... look at the money thats being made off of it. From tech companies upgrading computers, to fat dudes selling T-shirts on the street.

Y2K threat IS real... but it was dissolved awhile ago, except for small businesses and minor things like alarm clocks or whatever. Right now, they pushing it for the money.

The power stations WILL go off, ON PURPOSE, just to show people that something DID happen... and making them even MORE afraid for the future... giving even more control
to gov'ts and corps.

As far as I'm concerned, nothing major will happen, it's just gonna be
another-day/another-year...

I wonder what would happen if the US detonated every nuke it has in one spot, would it have enough power to make the reaction self-sustaining "Who wants to be bunk mates with a galactic calamity" though . Imagine, we could be the only race that could claim to have ended all life everywhere.

The only threat Y2K poses is to embeded chips on some systems out there.

Most of this has been taken care of exept in some third world countries, inaccessable places(i.e. the date fault chip at the bottom of the ocean on a oil platform).

There will be some panic, but not much.

Don't buy any stock .

No, i'm not talking about bank computers...

I'm talking about if there's some friggin' world-wide economy crash... (due to computers OR NOT)...
