Might be because you were outside of the map when you took those screenies. If you stayed within the walls that prob wouldn't happen. But then again, 1.6 is glitchy

since it also happens in 1.5 im pretty sure its a video card problem. get newest drivers. dont post on steampowered cause its not a 1.6 problem. dont post here cause its got nothing to do with cz. if you have no problems in opengl i would say just stick to it. prefer it myself.
bottom line, probably not a cs/hl problem get help from video card resources.

Easy, follow the advice that others have posted. Don't use D3D. It's buggy and generally slower than OpenGL. I would recomend running software mode before D3D. ;p

OpenGL > Software > D3D

Software > d3d ? I dunno about that, maybe just for half life, but even that would surprise me.

For Half-Life, yes, pretty much any other game, no.
Is the problem with D3D in HL the fact that it's using older DirectX code or something? That's what I think. OpenGL was way better than D3D during those times... now newer games run better with D3D.

I associate d3d with games like diablo 2, when it comes to serious 3d I go opengl. It will be a sad day when d3d takes over.
I dunno if I'm mad or something, but I heard something about opengl 2.0?

opengl runs faster, but is generally darker, has that bug where you can't see half your screen when you load the engine.
D3D is brighter, it runs slower and hasn't have that bug.
Software slow and ugly.

that's what I've experienced playing HL + many mods.

Well your graphixaccelartor has some incompatibilities with D3D used in CS, if it's a new card use opengl, if its an old use opengl, if it's 3dfx use openGL emulators like the minidrivers in HL.

Plus OpenGL is cross-platform.
