Default Tips.....for those new to ef2

are you new to ef2??, do you keep getting killed and can't do anything about it??

perhaps you dont know the basics of the game, so here are the basics

KEEP MOVING!!, never stand still

use strafe left and strafe right

jump and generally move out of the way of incoming attacks

learn the maps

becareful where you stand, you could fall of the map!

to use items, press your use key

dont rely on 1 gun, get to know them all

specatate those better than you, and watch how they play, pay Close attention to what guns they use, what items they pick up, and what power ups they use

is your game jumpy?? or lagging for no reason??

what is your ping??

is it high but constant.....eg 320, which changes to 324 next time you look??

this is latency lag, you are either on 56k or far away from the server, you should be able to cope with this, and if you get used to it, it will improve your game

is your ping very jump?? ......eg 50, which changes to 500 next time you look??

this is because something is using your internet, possible causes

a background application is running
you are downloading
you are browsing the internet
is a filesharing program running?

solutions

turn off all programs
restart your computer
restart your internet (if cable/dsl by removing the power lead and putting it back in)

ways you can spot lag

type in console

fps 1

this will display your frames per second

cg_lagometer 1

this will display the packets you recieve from server and your graphics

packets should be mostly green with the odd yellow or red in there

the top line displays your graphics, this line should be resonably straight and blue, but it will change a little

can you not connect to a server??

have you patched your game?? (v1.1)

do you have the map?? (if not download it)

is the server full??

Good tips there Cube. Didn't realize Ritual had rewritten the ol lagometer. In all the other Q3 based games, the top line has to do with the server connection performance, and the bottom was the client. For more details: Lagometer Info Page

for new users I would add, those eager to push your graphics card to the limits, dont bother, start with the absolute minimum, and if thats not good enough for you (doubtful) work your way up.

Use an 'aimbot'. This is a third party software that is able to place your crosshair perfectly on your enemy each and every time without fail.
Use a 'wallhack'. Also another third party software that is used to see through walls by either turning the display of the map into a wireframe mode, or using the msn messenger exploit.
Drink red bull or find a friend that sells extacy tablets. These drugs are stimulants which affect your nervous system, it increases your reflexes, alertness, and stamina.
Before you start playing EF2, start up Kazaa and make sure that you are 1) downloading something. And 2) Uploading something. This will make you move around the map in a very jerky fashion, and you may find it a bit hard to control and aim, but in retrospect, its more of an eyesore to the enemy, and makes you a very hard target to kill. Good for flag runners.

And if you dont want to lose, LAG Out (disconnect the internet cable) so no one will know you quit. This trick also works very well with other games

Also, hog your CPU! Start up Uberradient and load up a BIG map
