Default problems crashing?

I tried all day to get this game to work. I looked all over these forums for the answers, but finally what did it was right in front of my face. Lower the sound and video settings some and be sure to also check advanced under video settings and lower some of those there. I have a TNT2 and basically the minimum CPU and it's working for me now and not crashing to the desktop continuosly.
I also put a small fan inside my computer to help cool the card some, because it ws getting very hot, but I don't think that was the issue since it still didn't work until I lowered the settings.

Hope this helps somebody!

Is this a help request? I didn't think so.

I think he's just posting a solution to his problem so that if ever anyone else has the same problem they can simply read this

Yes, but I'm not sure how useful saying 'The game won't run on max settings on a minimum spec machine' is. Now, someone who compiled a list of various systems and which settings work well on those systems, that might be useful. I just think it's a bit strange that he's surprised that a poor system won't run the game on high specs.

Sometimes "minimum requirements" can confuse people I think especially when they don't list "recommended" on the box.

Also, is there any thing I could ad to the command line for the game to detect and run optimum for a system? In some games it's -autoconfig, but that didn't seem to work here.

I thought it auto-configured your system on install? At least, it says on the video options screen that the settings are autodetected.

It does. If it crashes, it should run in safemade which is the lowest settings. (Most Q3 engine games do this!).

Crash, or run in safe mode?
