Default Explosions hanging for 10 seconds

Hello.
I am not at my computer right now, so I cant get the dxdiag info right now, but will when I get home tonight.

My problem is this though:
Everytime there is an explosion (mostly from barrels/explosives), the game will 'hang' for 10 seconds, with the sound repeating the 1st part of the explosion sound. This lasts for about 10 seconds, and then the game continues fine until the next explosion.

I have the latest sound/video/mobo drivers available.
I have an AMD fx-60 (dual core), 4gigs of memory, and 2 gforce 7800gtx's, in sli, and audigy 2 zs sound card.

Thanx for any help.

Dual core problems

If you are on a dual-core machine and have been experiencing random crashes or major performance drops, please check out this Source-engine knowledge base article for how to fix the problem:

Sarkie, I did read that.
But, I am not experiencing any performance drops, or crashes, or hangs (that will not come back from the hang, that is).

Just this 1 anomally.

When I get home though, I will try it out, although I already have the bootup string and the AMD driver.

You have a rig that I'm jealous of

Anyway your Soundblaster drivers seems to be a year old, if you card is an

SB Audigy 2 ZS (not pro or gamer)

http://uk.europe.creative.com/suppor...pe=0&x=5&y =9

Go there

Also

http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

and checking in the platform drivers part for your machine, can't tell which one it is

Cheers

Hey Sarkie.
Thanx for the rig comments.

I actually installed the Nvidia dual core update, and it crashed my system on bootup.
I went into safe mode, and uninstalled it, and guees what?

Upon playing the game afterwards, I was only getting a small pause (a second or less) on explosions now. The sound is not reating like it did either.
And fyi: Those are the latest audigy zs drivers. There are only a few non-essential driver updates for the card that I didnt update. Creatives auto-update feature is nice.

Dont ask me how, but it seemed to do something.
Anyway, I can live with this.
I am at the very end of the game now, so consider this case closed.

It was either this one:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256

or this one:
http://www.amdzone.com/files/WinXPdualcorehotfix.exe

But I think they were both the same.

I seem to remember it being the microsoft one though.
