Default arena_faith (Beta3)

Here is my first map. It's pretty much 99% complete. All that is left is tweaking visuals and lighting, adding more detail props and other stuff.

The map is a highrise style theme map. I'm not a great mapper but hopefully it doesn't look too bad.

Ok, guys now shoot at you from a distance. Placed enemyfinder so they start coming at once you move a step. Now it is time to finished the construction. The large room to the right is probably to be cut in half the size. Just to much distance for the guys to travel without getting picked off.



I had another map that I started called faith which was going to be a cathedralesque style type map with very tall ceilings but i got bored of it. I porbably started hundreds of maps in my time but only finished a couple handfulls. This map was a little rushed but i wanted try a arena map of my own. I'll finished this one up then the second one i won't rush as i learned quite abit about arena maps from doing this one.

The Map is really well made. You've got the detail and stuff done great. I loved the way it looked and stuff.

But.....

The grunts have to get stupidly close before they open fire which often makes it so easy to pick them off before they can do any damage. The only real threat was the Chaingunners.
In some parts of the map its pretty barren of enemies.
They like to group around the stairs on the right side when you face the Elexis Statue. Spread out some of the spawns!

Not sure how to make them shoot further away. I felt it was a little barren too but i wanted to see what other people thought also. I'll probably add some spawns in the center of the map. Currently they are only off to the sides. 5 each side if I remember. Maybe I'll another group of enemies to increase the overall amount.

Check the Flags Long Visability and the PVS one if you havent done so already

crap didn't think about checking flags. thx

changes
5 pistols grunts to 8 (Squad 1)
2 scattergun grunts added (Squad2)
spawns added to center areas of map
enemies now can shoot far
enemyfinder added

FOr my final release the big room is going to be half the size. It is just to large. I could also make a room off to the side with some extra spawns to prevent people camping there. Nothing more relaxing than enemies spawning behind you.

I'm going to move the statue to a different room. Make it a staircase instead. Just took to long for the grunts to come to the upper portion as the had to run around the map to get to it. The statue will be in the smallest room whihc will be come larger to fit it in.

This is a solid and well constructed map. Good flow and it seemed like the AI was navigating pretty well between the different areas.

Some areas felt a bit empty - perhaps add dummy doors to some of the outside walls to break them up a bit, and maybe some windows, especially on the upper floors. A few more different props here and there might liven it up a bit and help to differentiate the more similar sections a bit. I felt the yellow tinge on lighting from the hanging lamps was much too strong, it's possibly making those side rooms look a bit gloomier than they really are. I wouldn't expect a posh office to be so dark in the corners.

I was trying to wrap my brain around how you could add stairs around the statue without needing to move it. That big central room feels like the right place for it to be, there must be a way.

Overall it's a top piece of work, looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
