Default How to Install Mods and Maps

You can find Maps and Mod for Elite Force II at the following websites:
ModDB.com: http://www.moddb.com/games/star-trek-elite-force-ii
EFFILES: http://eliteforce2.filefront.com
darkMatter Clan: www.darkmatter-clan.com

Elite Force II works basically, the same way like with all other id-tech3 games.

The game has a folder called "base", this folder contains the default installation. Usually Mods go into a different folder outside the base folder, some Mods and usually all the maps go into the base folder itself.

NOTE: The game installations folder must be named "EF2/base/" for the Game Devolopment Kitt (Übertools) to work, names like "xyz EF2/base/" if separated with a space will also work as long as "EF2/base/" is at the end. (http://www.moddb.com/games/star-trek...evolopment-kit)

The default structure is as follows (1.01 WIN):
EF2/
  • EF2.exe
EF2/base/
  • locpak1.pk3
  • locpak2.pk3
  • pak0.pk3
  • pak10.pk3
  • pak15.pk3
  • pak16.pk3
  • pak20.pk3
  • pak30.pk3
  • pak31.pk3
  • pak32.pk3
  • cgamex86.dll
  • gamex86.dll
EF2/base/global
  • default.cfg
  • defaultcontrols.cfg
  • defaultoptions.cfg

Files added/replaced with the official patch 1.1 (cvar "protocol" changed from 65 to 66):
EF2/
  • EF2.exe
  • version.inf
EF2/base/
  • locpak50.pk3
  • pak50.pk3
  • cgamex86.dll
  • gamex86.dll
  • ctf_tartirus.pk3
  • ctf_vor2.pk3
  • dm_ctf_voy1.pk3
  • hm_ctf_exigent.pk3

Installing in a own folder
The GBS Mod works that way, so I will describe how it was done with that mod.
-------------------------------------
  1. Locate your EF2 installation folder. (C:\Program Files\Activision\EF2\)
  2. Create a folder in side the EF2 installation default is "C:\Program Files\Activision\EF2\".
    EXAMPLE: C:\program files\activision\ef2\gbs\
  3. If file does not exist "cgamex86.dll" copy "cgamex86.dll" from folder "base" to "gbs"
  4. If file does not exist "cgamex86.dll" copy "cgamex86.dll" from folder "base" to "gbs"
  5. Place all the delivered *.pk3 files into the new folder "gbs"
  6. Create a short-cut to the EF2.exe and add at the "TARGET" information the following commands:
    +set fs_game gbs
You could also run the game without copying the dll files, that would look like this:
    +set gamedll base/gamex86.dll +set cgamedll base/cgamex86.dll +set fs_game gbs

Installing new Maps or the HaZardModding Co-op Script Mod
The Co-op Mod allows players to join and play Co-op which do no not have the Mod installed, this is a Feature which only works if the Mod is installed on the server its "/base/" folder.
If the Mod is installed in a different folder players connecting to the server will get the following error message:
"Couldn't load cgame dll"
If you are missing a Map/level you will get this Error:
"Coudn't load *.bsp"
-------------------------------------
  1. Locate your EF2 installation folder, open the folder "/base/"
  2. Copy all the *.pk3 files into your game "/base/" folder.
  3. Start the game.
