Default SiN 1 Source released (unfinished, obviously)

Before Ritual started working on SiN Episodes, they were playing around with a Source version of good old SiN 1, which they may or may not have been planning to finish. RomSteady just released what they completed on his blog. Apparently, it's quite unfinished, but I'm sure it isn't unplayable. Could any of you guys try it out, cause his blog post is a bit distressing and such "Use at your own risk. No warranties are expressed or implied".

I'm downloading it right now. I'll post again after playing it.
Thanks for the tip.

I tried it out by unpacking the archive, moving
the map files from the maps folder in S1inSE(the
name of the created folder) to SE1\maps, taking
the folder "S1E1" from C:\S1inSE\S1inSE\materials
and copying it to SE1\materials.
From there I had to open the console and type in
map names intro, abandon, bank, csite, chem1, chem2
subway.
They're not really playable because of missing models,
textures, etc. but these assets could be usable to
someone making a custom level.

Oh god that looks horrifying. Thought they would have completed the first bank level. Still, thanks for letting me know how you did it. Sarkie said on Rom's blog that he might start some coding on another mod and maybe someone could try some fiddling around with this. and it's a shame that MadMax is making Retribution on UE3 now because he could have salvaged something from this. However, it's nice to see something new SiN-related, as unfinished as it may be and it's nice to see that there still is someone in this ghost town.
Something very interesting in that file is that it even has some files for the latter levels, including Thrall!

I fixed most of the error models.

So now I have combine soldiers and HL2 Citizens running around.

Need to do some decompiling and repalcement with a suitable model.

Fixed a few missing sounds, chem maps were easy to fix by moving the materials.

Really it's not worth trying to fix as too much content is missing (weapons, items, allsorts)

Chem1 is also alot like the sintek lab at the start of emergence.

Despite looking like an alpha map, it still looks convincing. I'll give it a try.

By the way, Rom opened up on the plot (If you can call it that) on his blog and I guess the weakness of it and the reason why the sequel couldn't be grasped tight by the audience was because of its sheer predictability and lack of actual character development. The scripts were litered with sophisticated vocabulary (which is deemed unhelpful when you're doing a story of any kind), lacked character development in term of their dimention and the entire plot and every single detail of it was see through from episode 1 till episode 9.

The mistake ritual did was to expand on their one and only original idea and attempt to modernize it. The outcome would be something that looks like high budget soft porn and predictable outcomes, since by the time you've finished looking at the cover, you already know that they are all going to have an action orgy at the end.

John Blade
Jessica Cannon
Elexis Sinclaire

Seriously, even pronstars don't adapt these names nowadays.

However, the gameplay could save the lack of plot, but how far can you push and come up with new concept NINE TIMES IN A ROW?

But still, great game. I had lots of fun. Let us all take lessons from this.

It would be fun if someone (Michael Russell or
someone else) would release all Sin related assets
they might have lying around regardless of their polish
or playability. I'm talking about any alpha or beta
builds of Sin and the "Sin 2 publisher demo" from
about 6 years ago, also whatever was completed on
Sin Episodes 2.

I know they had a mutant plant egg, a spider drone (like Sin1) and some plants.

I certainly would certainly like to see an alpha or beta build or demo of Episode 2 aswell.

It's feels cold and lonely here, so let them shower us with everything they got.
