Default Strange problem : lights thrue/over walls?!?

Hi everyone......
Let me start by making one thing clear : Am a newbee at this... so my problem may be very basic.

The map :
A map with a few rooms seperated by walls (brushes). To make the light I use some light-entities.

The problem :
The light-entities seem to light "around" the walls, i. e. I can see the light from one room on the floor and celling in the next. At first I thought it was because the brushed didn't touch each other, but now the walls stick into the celling and the problem is still there.

Any ideas???

Actually, I have come across this problem, too. The intersection between the two brushes overlap, and still light leaks from one room to another.

I haven't figured out a solution, nor what causes it. It certainly isn't a newbie thing.

No it isn't a newbie thing at all. I was asked this a good while ago and made a test map and got the same problem. I emailed Zied and he told me it was a lighting bug but didn't know how to fix it.

The problem comes mainly from the contrast between the large amount of light in one room and the low amount in the adjacent room.

I fiddled around and found a workaround for the problem:

You have to offset the floor and ceiling brushes in one of the rooms so their planes aren't at the same height. You can do this by making one of the floor and ceiling brushes thicker or thinner or moving them up or down.

Here's a quick and dirty diagram of what I mean seen from a side view. Sorry if the separating wall doesn't come out right in the message. Just imagine it's in the middle of the diagram

The light will creep through if your floors and ceiling interior heights match:

-----------------------------
-----------| |---------------
| |
| |
| |
-----------| |---------------
-----------------------------

So just offset them like this:

------------| |-------------
------------| |_____________
| |
| |
| |
------------| |_____________
------------| |-------------

See how the horizontal planes on the inside of the floor and ceiling don't match between one room and the other?

This will prevent the light from "seeping" through.

Thanks guys......
I'll try that workaround. By the way you will proberbly hear more from me in the future. I just ordred WoS but I don't wont to wait for it, so I've started to work on my own sequel.

Bye for now.

PS. If anyone has 3DSMAX and knows how to make animations (.SAM's), I could really need a hand...
