Paint Shop Pro: TGA files w/ alpha channel
This may not be news to everyone, but I had to do a bit of searching around to figure it out, so I thought I'd share...
Since textures need to be saved as 32-bit TGA files rather than 24-bit, you need to save an alpha channel. The ftx2tga converter program seems to strip out the alpha channel and leave you with a 24-bit color TGA file, so you need to add it back in when you save your modifications.
This might be dead simple in Photoshop (I dunno, don't have it), but I'm using Paint Shop Pro 6 and it's anything but obvious since "32-bit" isn't an option when saving TGA files. The following works, however, when you're ready to save your changes:
1. Masks->New->Show All.
2. Masks->Save to Alpha Channel
3. File->Save or File->Save As (Truevision Targa, 24-bit, uncompressed).
Doing this got me working skins that were the same file sizes as the originals.
btw, Anyone know where the ftx2tga converter came from? Is there source code? It would be handy if it didn't strip out the alpha channel, but it's not a big deal.
