Tyler Walkthrough

Step One (Running around)

Tyler can be a real pain if you don't know the tricks to killing him, but like any good old Nintendo boss, he can be beaten if you know the way! First off you'll need to do some traditional FPS fighting, running around, avoiding his attacks while draining some health. Get a good feel for the level, there are a couple of water pools and health plants around, as well as some ammo and even potions on floating platforms. You'll need to use the transparent floating platforms to reach them, and sometimes in the heat of battle it seems like more of a pain than it's worth, but you'll need all of your skills to beat the reanimated Lord Tyler! One of my favorite tricks is to hide underneath the fallen pillar, it gives some shelter in the early parts of this level against Tyler's grenade attacks and lets you strafe around the pillars while attacking Tyler from relative safety.

Step Two (Health theft)

Eventually you'll get Tyler's health down to a point where he falls to his knees. Now is an important moment to pay attention: Tyler will use the Edenwater ampoules on his belt to refresh his health if you don't quickly rush in and use the left-hand fire on the Soul Sucker to take all the water for yourself. It's also a nice easy way to refresh your own energy and prevent Tyler from getting his health back. Any time Tyler falls to his knees you'll have to run up and do the same technique to keep his health low.

Step Three (Sword of light)

After two times of Tyler falling to his knees, you'll cut his arm off, which releases the giant sword he was carrying. In a cinematic sequence, you'll see it fly up on top of the fallen pillars, and eventually you'll need to get it to use on Tyler. You can grab it any time it's convenient, but remember, it's really powerful, and useful against the little enemies that Tyler keeps spawning in to annoy you (usually horde/happymasks or Fleshbinders).

Step Four (Chicken fighter)

Pretty soon Tyler will realize you 0wn him, and then he'll start fighting unfairly.. heh. He will spawn out of the platform and start flying around in space shooting at you. You'll probably want to use bullet weapons, as rockets and other weapons are too slow to reach him before he scoots under the platform to rise on the other side. It usually doesn't take TOO long to get him back on the platform, but you do have to take off a certain amount of health, so keep firing. One sneaky way to drain health and keep his attention off you is to spawn in a few mosquitoes using the magic horn. The 'skeeters will follow Tyler wherever he goes, and they also point you to the side he'll rise up on, giving you an extra second or so to see where he's coming from. Tyler will focus his attention on your friends and not you, allowing you to attack him with a bit more freedom. This tactic also works when Tyler is fighting you on the platform, but things sometimes get a bit overcrowded with them all flying around, so watch out.

Step Five (Last stages)

You're almost done, Tyler will keep spawning in horde and Fleshbinders, and he'll start using his megabreath lasers to attack you when you get close. Luckily if you still have ranged weapons left you can avoid his short-range breath and attack him from across the platform, although the spawned enemies will still be attacking you (grr) Keep whittling away at his health, and eventually he'll get to one or two health bars left.

Step Six (Off with his head)

Now is when you put the finishing touches on Tyler's demise. Remember what Tyler spawned onto the platform with? The big sword stuck in his chest! Whip out the big sword if you're not using it already, and use it to attack him in the upper torso. Basically, you'll need to jump and swing at him, just shooting him or attacking his legs or arms won't work. I'm not sure if it's the hear or torso that requires the final blow, but it definately takes a jumping swing. In any case, you should be able to put the final blow into him, and from then on a cinematic will take care of the rest!
